Fitness Tips
These helpful exercise suggestions can help you hit your fitness goals
No matter what your age or what your exercise history, there are several principles that apply to anyone who wants to pursue physical fitness. Make sure to follow this fitness advice to ensure your safety and endurance.
Keep it light and do it right
Whether you’re lifting weights or running a mile, make sure you take precautions to keep proper form. It’s better to work out longer at a slower pace or lift extra repetitions at a lower weight than to push yourself too far.
Less is more
Pace yourself so you don’t burn out on exercise. Vary your type of fitness training such that you do two of strength training every week and some sort of cardio exercise five days a week. Make sure you exercise just enough to challenge yourself, but not so much that you are terribly sore or too miserable to exercise again the next day.
Good Physical Fitness Over Age 50
As your body matures, changes happen which require more vigilant attention to your health. Senior physical fitness programs are becoming very popular as our maturing population takes their health into their own hands. Here is some fitness advice for those over 50.
Watch Your Diet
Whether you need to lower your blood pressure, improve your heart health, lower your cholesterol, prevent diabetes or fight obesity, a healthy diet is one of the best weapons you have in your arsenal.
As you age, your metabolism slows and your body becomes more susceptible to obesity, diabetes, heart disease and clogging of the arteries. It’s best to fight these threats to senior fitness with a diet rich in fruit, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products. You will also need to watch out for bone health and cancer, so adequate amounts of calcium, vitamin D and antioxidants are essential.
